Savings
Real savings, shown with your real data
Here's exactly how Watt Guard turns your meter readings into lower bills.
Step by step
How savings work
Most plan sites price a plan at 500, 1,000 or 2,000 kWh. Your home isn't an average — so we start with what your meter actually recorded.
- 1Create a free account and add your ESI ID, meter number and provider (or upload every page of your bill and we read them for you).
- 2Approve the data-sharing email from Smart Meter Texas — the official state meter data portal.
- 3We pull your recent 15-minute readings right away, then update every morning.
- 4Watt Guard prices your real usage on your current plan and shows where the money goes.
- 5Premium compares plan types against your usage and warns you before your contract ends.
- 6You decide. Nothing is switched without your action.

True cost breakdown
A Texas bill has several parts. The advertised rate is only one of them.
Energy charge
The ¢/kWh your retail provider charges for the electricity itself.
Delivery (TDSP) charges
Set by your utility — Oncor, CenterPoint, AEP Texas or TNMP — and approved by the PUCT. Every provider passes them through.
Base / monthly fees
Flat charges that hurt most in low-usage months and make a cheap-looking rate expensive.
Bill credits & tiers
Credits that only apply at an exact usage level. Miss it by 1 kWh and your rate can jump.
Taxes & fees
Gross receipts and PUC assessment charges, plus local sales tax where it applies.
Your effective rate
Total bill ÷ kWh used. This is the number we compare — not the headline rate.
Fit, not hype
Best contract match
The right plan type depends on when you use power, not just how much.
Simple fixed rate
Best for steady usage and people who want predictable bills.
Free nights / weekends
Can win when a big share of your use falls in the free window — otherwise daytime rates are usually higher.
Time-of-use
Rewards shifting laundry, EV charging and pool pumps away from afternoon peaks.
Bill-credit plans
Only pay off if your usage reliably lands in the credit range every month.
Solar buyback
Compares how your exported power is credited, using your separate generation readings.
Contract length
We weigh rate vs. term and remind you to shop in the 14 days before expiration, when Texas rules let you switch without an early termination fee.
Plan offers shown in the app are labeled samples until live offer feeds are connected. Always read a plan's Electricity Facts Label (EFL) before enrolling.
Use less
Efficiency measures
The cheapest kWh is the one you never use. Your interval data shows exactly where to start.
Always-on load
Your lowest overnight usage reveals 'vampire' devices, old fridges and pool pumps running 24/7.
Afternoon peaks
AC is usually the largest Texas load. Pre-cooling and a smart thermostat can trim peaks.
Rebates & programs
TDSP efficiency programs and local rebates for insulation, HVAC, smart thermostats and more (Premium).
